Today I met up with some friends at Piece Box in Edinburgh for some lunch and a catch up. One of whom is the lovely Edinburgh Food Girl (@edinfoodgirl on Twitter).
Piece Box opened in 2011 and takes its name from the Scottish word for sandwich , piece. I always think of a piece as a piece in jam. I don’t think they had that on the menu but they had a huge array of yummy sandwiches, soups, salads, and of course many cakes.
When we arrived it was really busy, fortunately @edinfoodgirl had phoned ahead and booked us a table. I’d definitely recommend booking as its a very popular place.
Our waitress was extremely helpful with the two bambinos as well as our orders.
I opted for a sandwich with chicken, pesto, sunblushed tomatoes and rocket. Edinburgh Food Girl had the smoked salmon sandwich and our friend had the salmon and asparagus quiche. I forgot to take pictures but they were fab. Noone was disappointed.
Afterwards Edinburgh Food Girl and I (and the two bambinos) stayed for a coffee and cake. Sadly our friend had to go back to work. I opted for a latte and banoffe pie while Edinburgh Food Girl had raspberry and white chocolate cake. Both portions were extremely generous.
Is definitely go back, maybe mid afternoon to miss the lunch rush. It’s a hidden gem. Here’s just some of the cakes
