Sainsbury’s Bread Mix

Obviously I love to cook and bake otherwise why would I have this blog but sometimes we all struggle for time. Over the course of the next few months I’m going to do a few blogs using the ready made mixes. I can hear the gasps of shock from here but I thought it might be worth seeing if any of them are any good and how they compare to making them from scratch.
First on the list was this Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Spelt and Sunflower Seed Bread Mix. Which costs £1.20. A wee bit more expensive than most of the bread mixes I’ve seen but that’s probably because it’s the Taste the Difference range.

All you have to do is add the olive oil or butter to the dry mix, and use your hands to make it like breadcrumbs. Then add the water. Knead for ten mins and then leave to prove for about an hour. Once it has proved knead again for a couple of minutes and pop in a loaf tin. Let it rise again for about 30 mins then bake in the over. Simple

I was a bit worried when putting it into the oven as the texture looked a bit odd but in the end it baked okay.

When it was fresh out the oven it was lovely, really crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle.IMAG2032

It’s not the most flavoursome though and this morning it had all gone a bit soft.

Flavour and consistency 3/5

General easy-ness 4/5

Value for money 3/5

If you have any recommendations for ready mixes that I should try let me know!
